Game Developer’s Conference (GDC) is always an exciting time of year for game developers and the week is already picking up steam. On Tuesday afternoon team Xbox hosted the 19th Annual Women in Gaming Rally in partnership with Activision, Facebook Gaming, Ubisoft, Unity, Women in Gaming International, and YouTube.
It was an honor to collaborate with so many great companies who are committed to diversity, and creating a space where women from across the industry could come together and celebrate their role in the gaming industry. Held at the Terra Gallery in San Francisco, we welcomed over 600 industry professionals to engage in how we, as a strong community, can work together to build a better world through gaming.
Head of Minecraft, Helen Chiang, opened the day speaking about the inspiring work the Minecraft team does to empower players to have a positive impact on the world, and how as a mother of two young girls, she is working to be a positive role model and work to protect them online.
A lively hour long panel followed, moderated by Mixer’s Kate Yeager, and featured a diverse group of women each with a different focus on how they were working to create a more equal and accessible industry through their respective disciplines. Special thanks to Gabi Michel (Xbox), Anne Blondel-Jouin (Ubisoft), Ashley Alicea (Unity), Fidji Simo (Facebook), Eunice Lee (Activision), and Molly Maloney (Bad Robot Games) for joining us.
For those that couldn’t attend, you can catch a broadcast of the panel on the Women in Gaming Mixer show on Wednesday, April 3 at 12:00 p.m. PT at www.mixer.com/womeningaming.
